YMCA Batticaloa Proudly Showcases Its Leadership and Community Impact at the National Progress Review for Community-Led GBV Prevention

UNFPA, together with UNDP Sri Lanka and the Jaffna Social Action Centre (JSAC), and supported by the Government of Canada, convened grantees from 10 districts for the Progress Review of the Small Grant Initiative for Community-Led Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Prevention, guided by the globally recognised RESPECT Framework. This national event served as a vital platform for organizations across Sri Lanka to share achievements, discuss challenges, and explore stronger community-led approaches to preventing GBV and ensuring justice for survivors.
YMCA Batticaloa proudly took part in this significant gathering, reaffirming its ongoing dedication to building safer, more respectful, and more empowered communities. The event also provided an opportunity to highlight the organisation’s youth-driven and community-centred initiatives that continuously uplift vulnerable groups and promote non-violence.
A major highlight of the program was the representation of YMCA Batticaloa by Youth Chairperson, Mr. Abishan Ashley, who served as the main presenter for the district. His presentation highlighted the transformative work carried out through community outreach, awareness programs, and youth engagement activities. His insightful delivery and strong leadership were well-received, placing YMCA Batticaloa in the spotlight among national-level grantees.
In addition to this, Mr. Soosainthan Patrick, Acting General Secretary of YMCA Batticaloa, also participated on behalf of the organization. His presence strengthened the delegation’s contribution and reflected the institution’s commitment from both youth leadership and senior administrative levels. Together, their participation demonstrated the collective effort and shared vision that drive YMCA Batticaloa’s community initiatives.
Throughout the review, YMCA Batticaloa was notably highlighted for its contributions, particularly its ability to mobilize youth, foster community participation, and create safe spaces for dialogue and awareness. The organization’s efforts were recognized as an inspiring model within the national network of grantees.
The event concluded with an engaging gallery presentation, where participants showcased their local innovations, success stories, and lessons learned. YMCA Batticaloa’s display reflected the creativity, dedication, and community impact of its ongoing projects, further reinforcing its role as a proactive and committed organization in GBV prevention.
Standing alongside partners from across Sri Lanka, YMCA Batticaloa reaffirmed its mission to uphold respect, equality, and justice. With strong leadership from both youth and senior representatives, the organization continues to work towards a future where every individual can live free from violence, fear, and discrimination.
