YMCA Batticaloa Celebrates Founder’s Day with Thanksgiving, Fellowship, and Community Spirit

The YMCA of Batticaloa joyfully commemorated Founder’s Day with a special Thanksgiving Gathering held at the YMCA Batticaloa premises, bringing together members, youth, volunteers, leaders, and well-wishers to celebrate the enduring legacy of the YMCA movement and its commitment to serving communities.

The celebration was a meaningful occasion that reflected the core values upon which the YMCA was founded—faith, service, leadership, unity, and community development. Participants gathered in a spirit of gratitude to give thanks for God’s guidance throughout the years and to honour the vision of Sir George Williams, whose passion for empowering young people continues to inspire millions through the global YMCA movement.

The Thanksgiving programme featured moments of prayer, worship, reflection, and fellowship, reminding participants of the YMCA’s mission to nurture the spiritual, intellectual, social, and physical well-being of individuals while creating opportunities for positive transformation within communities. It also provided an opportunity to reflect on the achievements of YMCA Batticaloa and to reaffirm its commitment to empowering young people and serving society with compassion and integrity.

As part of the Founder’s Day celebrations, the YMCA Batticaloa Youth Club successfully organised a fundraising programme to support its ongoing youth development and community service initiatives. The event demonstrated the enthusiasm, creativity, and dedication of the young volunteers who worked tirelessly to make the programme a success.

The fundraising initiative received an encouraging response from members of the community, whose generous contributions will help strengthen future projects focused on youth leadership, educational programmes, community outreach, social welfare activities, and initiatives that create positive opportunities for young people throughout the region.

Beyond raising funds, the programme fostered a strong sense of fellowship and togetherness. It brought people of all ages together in celebration, reinforcing the belief that meaningful change is achieved when communities unite with a shared purpose. The warmth, generosity, and active participation of everyone present reflected the vibrant spirit of YMCA Batticaloa and its continuing impact within the local community.

The success of the event would not have been possible without the dedication of the YMCA Batticaloa Youth Club, the organising committee, volunteers, staff members, donors, and every individual who contributed their time, effort, and resources. Their collective commitment transformed the celebration into a memorable occasion that will continue to inspire future service and community engagement.

YMCA Batticaloa extends its heartfelt appreciation to everyone who attended, participated, contributed, and supported the Founder’s Day celebration and fundraising programme. Your encouragement and generosity continue to strengthen our mission of empowering young people, serving communities, and building a brighter future together.

As we celebrate another milestone in the rich history of the YMCA movement, we look forward with renewed hope and determination to expanding our programmes, nurturing future leaders, and continuing to make a lasting difference in the lives of individuals and communities. Guided by our values and united in purpose, YMCA Batticaloa remains committed to creating opportunities that inspire faith, leadership, service, and positive social change for generations to come.
